Little Things That Create A Big Impression (In Business)

Thinking About Becoming A Lawyer-Chispa MagazineWhen I think about the people that I’ve been most impressed by, they all share a set of distinct characteristic. Often, those people have been extraordinarily successful in all areas they have applied themselves. And, I believe that it can often be the little things they do that create the biggest impressions. It’s not so much what they know, it’s more how they deliver what they know that’s really important. In other words, it’s what they do.

Etiquette
Sometimes strict etiquette can appear inauthentic. But, a certain level of general etiquette can work wonders for the impression that you create in others. For example, if you’re holding a seminar for a small number of people, make sure that you introduce yourself to each person. Stand up and make eye contact first and then walk over to them to introduce yourself. And when they leave, make a point of going over to the door and holding it open for them. It just adds a level of service, and usually, it’s not something that people expect you to do. And nothing leaves an impression like a firm handshake and looking a person in the eyes.

Pay Attention To Your Dress
Having the correct attire is essential in all lines of work. That’s because it’s a signal of your role and of your quality. Life is too short for people to work out whether you are indeed a knowledgeable and competent person through getting to know you. They need a signal right away that tells them that this is a person with whom they can do business. Obviously, you want to dress appropriately. But there are other little things you can do, like wearing custom lanyards, that tell people that you’re a professional.

Be A Chauffeur
If you ever transport clients in your car use your driving to communicate your values and integrity. This means doing things that you might not do otherwise, like use the lane indicators or obeying the speed limit on the motorway.

You also want to make sure that whenever a customer enters a private space, that space reflects the image that you want to give. If your car has rubbish all over the floor, then you will not be giving off the most professional impression.

Thank Your Advocates
Perhaps you have a loyal team of people who regularly promote your products in one form or another. A great way to show your appreciation and a great way to get them to continue doing what they’re doing is to show gratitude. I think one good way of doing this is to enter all the people that have helped you in a competition and choosing two or three to receive a prize.

You can also send out personalized thank you cards to the people with whom you have done business.

Regularly Celebrate Success
Regularly celebrating successes, no matter how small can help you to retain staff and keep morale high in your place of work. Your team works hard, so it’s worth doing something to show your appreciation every few weeks or couple of months.
