How To Keep Your Relationship Alive

How To Keep Your Relationship Alive-Chispa MagazineEvery relationship needs commitment and work. A healthy and happy relationship is one that is alive. It needs oxygen, surprise, new adventures, and security. It can be the most wonderful understanding in the whole world, or it can be the most frustrating thing in the universe. When we get it right, it is liberating, life-affirming, and full of love and joy. There may not be any relationship that is perfect 100 percent of the time, but here are few ways to keep it buzzing most of the time.

Make time for each other. It sounds simple, and it is. No matter what else is going on, and no matter who else is around, two people in a relationship need time together. That is positive time doing and even creating things together. This is not about wonderful weekends away, though there is nothing wrong with that. It is about spending a part of each day simply being with each other and communicating. It could be twenty minutes in the morning before the day begins. It could be a ‘catch up’ sometime during the day. In a frantic life, it could just be a phone call or even a simple text. Or, most likely it will be an evening meal after a full day’s work. That meal might be the first and only time you sit down together in a day… Make the meal and even its prep work, a part of your life. And, while you’re eating, why not plan a date night or book that weekend away?

Surprise each other with tokens of love. Valentine’s day is coming up, and the shops and card shops, in particular, are full of tokens of love and appreciation. But, no one needs to be told or reminded that you are in a relationship that is based on so many things such as love, respect, and admiration. Show it with small tokens at any time. Leave an unexpected note. Let someone know how much you appreciate them. By all means send a card. Get in touch with a florist who knows how to send flowers in style such as Scent and Violet. If it’s special on Valentine’s day, it is extra special on any other day. Small spontaneous gifts can be lovely to receive.

Keep planning ahead. Every relationship needs hope and optimism. We all need something to look forward to. You and your partner are no different. Make it a part of your relationship that you plan things together. That means we will actually have to make time, sit down, and work out what we want. Perhaps one or both of you would like to do some traveling? Work out how and when, and put your plans in motion.

Perhaps you are working toward a family or buying a home. Or, it may be that your children are growing and heading off. You still need plans and adventures to look forward to. And, they don’t always have to be together. For example, one person may want to go the college or take up a hobby that the other has no real interest in. Find a way to support your partner, help them grow and live their dream; it will bring all sort of benefits into your relationship.

Keeping your relationship alive is all about spontaneity, discovery, keeping the spark alive, and putting The Creator first. And, there is no time to reaffirm that better than today.
