Common Home Repair Jobs You’ll Face at Least Once

Common Home Repair Jobs You'll Probably Face at Least Once-Chispa MagazineThere are certain repair jobs that every homeowner has to deal with at least once in their life and here are some of the most common issues and how you can deal with them. Ready to take on Handy Manny?

A Leaky Faucet
When a faucet simply won’t stop dripping, it can become very frustrating. Firstly, it could drive you mad with that constant ‘drip, drip, drip’ sound. But what’s even more important than that is the money you’ll be charged on your next water bill. So, the longer you ignore the problem, the more money it will cost you. The most sensible thing to do is call up an emergency plumber and let them fix the issue swiftly. It’ll save you cash in the long-term.

Damaged Caulk in the Bathroom
Many homeowners who have never installed a bathroom suite by themselves don’t even know what caulk is. It’s that white sealant that surround the bathtub and other fixtures in the bathroom. It’s used to stop liquids and moisture from seeping through the gaps and damaging the walls and fixtures. When you notice that it’s starting to peel or crack, you need to replace it quickly to stop mold forming.

Sticking Doors
This might sound a little worrying, but over time your house moves about. This is totally normal though. The foundations shift very marginally, and you won’t notice this. But one of the side effects of this movement is doors becoming out of alignment. The door frame shifts and it becomes difficult to shut doors smoothly. To make this less likely to happen again in future, you can add modern, up to date hinges.

Troublesome Gutters
Gutters tend to be the first things that get damaged after a storm passes over. They are pretty fragile if you think about it. They’re made from plastic, so it’s hardly surprising that they get cracked, smashed and blown off the side of the house during a storm. To keep them in good shape, you should make sure they’re flowing at all times and remove leaves and debris when necessary. It can be a good idea to pour warm water down them in the winter too. This stops ice building up.

A Faulty Light Switch
It happens to us all at some point. We walk into the room, switch on the light, and something strange happens. Or rather nothing happens! Light switches are pretty fragile, and it doesn’t take much for them to get damaged. However, this problem is pretty cheap and easy to fix. Once you’ve ruled out the bulb as the cause of the problem, you’ll have to call in an electrician who will be able to fix the problem in less than an hour.

Home Infestations
There’s always a reason for home infestations. Whether it’s birds, bugs or rodents, they have to get into your house somehow. Before you can start to worry about how they got in, you need to worry about getting them out. If the infestation is large and traps and poison isn’t having any effect, it’s time to call in the professionals. Once they’ve done their stuff, you need to find the cracks and gaps in your home that the pests exploited and then repair them.
