A job market is a tough place at the moment and no matter what your chosen industry, opportunities may seem scarce. You are probably already looking for ways to make your CV stand out from the rest of the pack. Remember, on average, a potential employer will look at your CV for less than sixty seconds before deciding whether or not you get an interview. Being able to have certain proven skills will definitely get your CV more than a second glance. Ready to take notes?
Customer Service
We know there are some people out there who think they can get by without any customer service skills. Either, they think that customer service relates to selling products and therefore not their chosen line of work, or, they believe other people will interact with customers for them. In fact, all businesses involve some form of customer service because every business involves a product being sold. This can be a person, a service or a piece of tech, but you will always have a customer or client to cater for. Be sure to show you have skill in this area and examples from previous jobs.
Medical
Whenever you enter a workplace, you will always see at least one sign warning you of a hazard. It may be “clean as you go” or “Caution! Wet Floor.” The reason for this is that work environments are a magnet for accidental injuries and employers try to prevent them the best they can. But some cannot be foreseen, such as someone choking. This is why companies are always on the look out for a trained first aider for their workplace. We strongly suggest you think about looking into Level 2 first aid courses if you have the time. At the very least this shows you have intuition and at the most it can give you the edge when competing against a fellow interviewee.
Tech Knowledge
Employers are always keen to recruit someone who has a good knowledge of computers and working online. The reason for this is simple. All companies need marketing and this is now mostly done online, for free, without that much effort involved. You should be aware of key tools like SEO and website design as well as how to use Twitter and Facebook for business orientated activities. We guarantee, no matter what job you apply for at some point during the interview, you will be asked about tech knowledge. This can be as simple as word processing or as complex as knowing how to get a website seen in an online search window.
Second Language
You may not remember the second language you learned at school, but it is never too late to pick it up again. The building blocks needed are probably still floating around, in the back of your mind. You just need to give them a boost, and this can be as simple as listening to language learning MP3s in your spare time. If you are thinking about learning a completely new language, we recommend Mandarin. China has one of the largest populations in the world, and it will only continue to grow. Learning this will add to your customer services skills.
Learn to use these skills and how to show them in an interview and we believe the next job you apply for will be yours.
