Five Alternative Careers For People With Degrees In Medicine

How To Follow Your Dream Career Of Becoming A Medical Professional-Chispa MagazineHave you just passed your degree in medicine? If so, the typical route is to become a GP or a hospital doctor, before becoming a specialist in a particular field of medicine. However, that isn’t to say there are no other options for you. In fact, your job prospects are exceptional, and we thought we would highlight some of your opportunities today. Let’s get started.

Switch to medical law. When you qualify from medical school, you have proven your worth and intelligence. And, it’s a simple process to switch from medicine to law. You will need another year or two of education, but you already have the foundations in place to study medical law. There could be a lot more money in it, too… so it’s worth thinking about it if you find that side of health and medicine of interest.

Stay in college. You could also find yourself staying within the college environment as an academic. You will be a research scientist, and can work your way up, breaking new ground in medicine and creating incredible new ideas. Many students stay with the college they learnt at and became researchers. But, you can also get in touch with an academic medicine recruiting company and find a job through them. There are plenty of opportunities, and you will be working at the cutting edge of what the field has to offer. Some of the research you complete may even enter standard medical practice.

International aid. Fancy seeing a lot more of the world? International aid organizations are always crying out for people that can make a difference to help. You will go to some dangerous places, where people have next to nothing. But, you will make that difference to hundreds, maybe thousands, of lives. Your work will go a lot further than medicine, too if you want. Education, sanitation, and agriculture all go hand in and with international aid. It is a tough career, but one that is incredibly rewarding.

Teach. You can also enter teaching, and be a part of creating the doctors and surgeons of the future. There are some amazing opportunities at the best medical schools in the country. And, they are always on the lookout for excellent lecturers and teachers. You will host lectures, seminars, practical demonstrations, and many other classes. Not only that, but you will be free to contribute your own research to the field, and there are excellent career progression opportunities.

Health service manager. If you have a business brain on you, it’s also possible to become a health service manager. You will be responsible for the financial and day-to-day running of hospitals and surgeries. It’s a big job that can take in many other fields. But, there is a chance to go a long way and have an enormous impact on your community’s healthcare provision.

As you can see, you don’t have to become a doctor once you qualify from medical school. There are plenty of other opportunities out there that can make a difference to people, and give you great progression.
