The Mompreneur’s Guide To Writing Your First Book

The Mompreneur's Guide To Writing Your First Book-Chispa MagazineMany people dream of writing a book, but never actually, do it. If you are a creative person who loves to write and has always wanted to create their own novel, take the leap and do it!

A lot of people choose not to pursue their dream of becoming a writer because of fear of failure. While it’s natural to worry about this, don’t let the idea of not being successful hold you back; you’ll regret it if you do.

Writing your own novel could be your ticket to spending more time with your family, having financial freedom, and a career that you love. It might be scary, but if you truly believe that you have the passion and mindset to write a novel, you have to try. To make writing and getting your first book published easier, we have created a useful guide. Ready?

Plan your ideas. The first thing that you need to do is create a mind map of ideas for your book. Whether you are creating a fiction or nonfiction piece, mind mapping your ideas is crucial. You can then use your mind map to get all of your best ideas together in a plan.

Create a basic outline of your book. This should include bullet points for what happens in each section of the book: the beginning, middle, and end. This should be a very basic outline, as you will add depth later on.

Many writers find that using specialist writing books can be incredibly helpful when creating their first novel. This is something that it might be a good idea to consider doing, as these books are great for helping to generate ideas.

Set yourself deadlines. You need to set yourself a deadline for the first draft of your book, as well as the edited and final drafts. For the initial draft, give yourself three months to create it; this is more than enough time. Then give yourself a month and a half to edit the first draft, improving it, before moving on to the final one. Overall, creating your book should take no longer than seven months.

Join a writer’s group. If you want to make your book a success, join a writer’s group. These are incredibly helpful, as you can discuss your ideas with other writers, and get lots of tips and advice.

You can even let other writers read your book, to check for plot holes and edits. This is an incredibly valuable resource when it comes to writing your first book.

Choose how you will publish it. Will you try to find a publisher who is willing to publish your book for you, or will you publish it yourself? Publishing your book yourself can be incredibly pricey, so unless you have unlimited funds, it’s best to find a company to cover the cost for you.

Get five or six copies of your final drafted printed by a professional book printing company, like Steuben Press. You can then send these to various publishing companies asking whether they would be willing to take your book on.

Writing a book isn’t an easy task; in fact, for some people it’s impossible. However, if you have passion and the right mindset, you can write an amazing novel, and more.
