If you have a husband that snores, then you’ll know what a nightmare bedtime can be. It’s not much fun tossing and turning when you can’t sleep because your beloved sounds like a freight train. It’s so difficult; a lack of sleep can make anyone feel grumpy. Resenting a snoring hubby for their nocturnal noise is natural, but it can put pressure on even the strongest of relationships. Snoring can range from a raspy little snort to a full-on roar. Statistics suggest that over 40 percent of people snore, but it’s hard to get an exact figure.
Studies have shown that snorers get even less action in the bedroom due to their noisy habit. This figure is reckoned to be almost a third less, so tell your husband and recommend they see the doctor…. quickly. Making love is a vital part of a healthy, strong marriage. The disruption snoring causes, from insomnia to sleeping in separate rooms can destroy your sex life.
What is snoring? Snoring occurs when air can’t find a clear passage through your nose and throat while you are sleeping. It makes the soft tissues that are in your neck and head vibrate, which causes the unpleasant snoring sounds.
What causes snoring? It’s always best to keep an eye on your BMI and make sure the scales aren’t creeping up without you noticing them. Those carrying a few extra pounds are more likely to have issues with snoring.
Drinking and smoking are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to this sleep-wrecking condition. If you’ve got a cold, you’re also bound to snore.
How can I stop snoring? Because snoring can be caused by so many different things, there is no one solution that will work for everyone. Luckily there are are a whole host of different things you can try to help make bedtime far more peaceful. Even something as simple as changing how you sleep make a difference. If you sleep on your back, try sleeping on your side. Propping yourself with pillows can help, too. If you’re overweight, try dropping a few pounds. It could be the physical shape of your nose that is causing the problem. Surgical procedures involving open rhinoplasty may be the only answer. There are other methods you can try first to help eliminate the causes.
Are you a smoker? Try and stop, or at least cut-down. Cutting down on nighttime boozing will also make you snore less. You can buy a range of different sprays from any drugstore that may help keep your airways open. There are also devices which you can wear that claim to help the air flow freely too. If none of these work for you, you may have other health issues that the snoring is just a symptom of, like Sleep Apnoea.
If you or your husband’s snoring is a problem, it’s best to see your doctor as soon as possible. Snoring shouldn’t be something you lose sleep over, and it definitely shouldn’t be ruining your intimacy.
