Want To Make Your Home More Eco-Friendly?

Want To Make Your Home More Eco-Friendly-Chispa MagazineWe all recycle and make sure to use as little energy as possible, but have you ever thought about your home itself? You may not realize it, but there are lots of ways that you can make your home more eco-friendly.

Obviously, if you are building a new home from scratch, you have the luxury of designing a green building. However, even if your home is older, there are still plenty of ways you can make the building itself, a little greener. For all of my top tips for making your home greener, keep reading, here:

Swap to clean power. Instead of using gas or electric to power your home, consider swapping to a green energy source. This could be wind, water or solar power, what you choose is up to you. The key with green power is to think about your home’s location and choose the most suitable type.

If, for example, your house is located in a sunny spot, solar power could be the ideal power source for your home. However, if your home is not in an area that gets a lot of sun, you need to consider your other options. If you are lucky enough to live near a water source, using water to power your home is an excellent option. Or, if you don’t have a water source close by, wind power could be the best choice for you.

While the initial investment that comes with swapping to a clean power source can be high, the amount that you will save makes it worthwhile.

Use natural light in your home. As much as possible, use sunlight to light your home. Obviously, it isn’t always possible to use just natural light to light your home. However, there are lots of ways you can allow more sunlight to enter your home.

If you have a dark area in your house – maybe a corridor, consider having a skylight installed. Or, for a corridor that is downstairs, perhaps a side window could make the space lighter. While the investment for these changes might be expensive, the amount of money that you will save in the long run makes them more than worth the cost.

Have your walls insulated. If the walls of your home aren’t already insulated, get them insulated as soon as possible. Not only do well-insulated walls prevent air from outside from entering your home. They also prevent the heat or cold air from inside, from escaping. This means that when it comes to heating your home or using your air con to cool it down, by insulating your walls, you can save money.

Cavity wall insulation doesn’t have to be that expensive to have fitted, in fact in many areas you can get it done for free. To get a quote for cavity wall insulation, get in touch with a local insulation company.

To make your home a little greener, all you need to do is take note of these ideas. Believe it or not, transforming your home into a greener building is much easier than you would think.
