Oversized Furniture: Why It Works

Oversized Furniture Why It Works-Chispa MagazineAt some in our lives, we, as homeowners, have had to make big decisions with regards to decorating our homes. There is so much choice and so many interior design rules that it is almost impossible to be confident you are making the correct choices. Take oversized furniture as an example. Some say that oversized furniture is a definite no go and others think that it can work in the right circumstances. Am I part of the later and here are a few reasons why.

Contrast
As a rule, contrast is something that we should all try and instil in our properties. Contrast has that great effective where it makes styles and tones look more defined than they are. As a result, the look is more effective, and your home looks better. The best way to add contrast to your home is through a mix and match of big and small furniture. An oversized sofa next to a couple of sleek and slender armchairs is remarkably subtle and looks great.

Comfort
Bigger is better in a lot of chances, and that is certainly the case when we are discussing comfort. Let’s face it; you can’t cuddle up in a small chair or stretch out on a tiny sofa. With oversized furniture, there is almost too much space. You don’t have to worry about not being able to lie down or your feet hanging off the end of the furniture because they are so big. Is there anything more comfortable than an oversized Fombag chair or a corner sofa? Not that I can think of.

Space
Properties can be huge. If you’re reading this and space is an issue, you are probably turning green with envy. It is true that the average room isn’t blessed with masses of space, but that doesn’t mean every home is midsized. Some properties have that much space that they don’t know what to do with it, and if you are one of these people oversized furniture could be a blessing. Instead of filling a room with small furniture, you can buy a few big pieces and scatter them around. They will fill the room much better and look a lot tidier. Too much furniture in one room can cause clutter and clutter can look messy and unorganized.

Bigger Is Better
We are, after all, an impulsive bunch. For whatever reason, human beings cannot resist going supersized because we all pretty much think bigger is better. As a society, we love to indulge ourselves with the finer things in life. At the minute, the finer things in life tend to be the bigger things in life. Don’t you believe me? How big is that TV hanging on your wall? Don’t be ashamed. Embrace your desires, but of course, the Chispa way is to have balance.

The morale of the story is rules can be broken. If it looks good to you, go with it because you are the person who has to live in your home. That is what a lot of interior designers forgot a lot of the time.
