Myths About Beauty: Busted

Dave-Says-Planning-for-College-Chispa-MagazineWe hear a lot about beauty these days, like what you need to do to get it. It’s funny, though, for a lot of people, there are these myths around beauty that they take as gospel truth. But is there any substance to them or all they all just rubbish? It’s time to find out!

You are born with it. The first myth about beauty is that you are either born with it, or you’re not. Of course, there are some lucky people that are genetically predisposed to have a fashionable figure, good skin or perfect bones structure. But, for those of us who aren’t, we are not just stuck with what we have. There are plenty of ways to enhance your looks.

You can try working out and eating well, which has have a positive effect on your skin, energy levels, and weight. You can also use makeup to radically improve your looks. You can cover blemishes and imperfection with concealer. Or use contouring and highlighting on your face to reshape it. If you have tried all these things and you are still not quite happy with an aspect of your appearance,  you can even go as far as to see a cosmetic surgeon. There are a lot of experienced specialists offering both surgical and nonsurgical solutions for weight loss and skin aging. Remember that it is your body, and it’s up to you to make a positive change for yourself, so don’t be afraid to explore all your options.

It comes from within. Now, there is a notion that beauty comes from within a myth? Well yes and no. Of course, we are visual beings, and everyone sees our outer appearance. But if you are a mean and unhappy person, that will come through. Even the most stunning person can look ugly if they are bitter and twisted on the inside. So make sure that you don’t neglect the important things in life like your family and work in favor of your outer appearance.

Beautiful people are shallow. It’s a well-known myth that beautiful people are shallow and only concerned with what is on the outside. But, is this really true? It seems unfair to label people as shallow, just because they are attractive. There are plenty of beautiful people that are deep thinkers and very intelligent. It really doesn’t make any sense to tile all attractive people with the same brush. There is no harm is looking nice, and it doesn’t mean anything about how wrapped up yourself you are.

People will be jealous of you. The last myth I want to look at is that people are always jealous of the beautiful. While this can be true, I don’t think it affects how your relationship and friendships go. People are always more likely to talk to outgoing and friendly people no matter what their looks are like. If you are kind and a good listener, it will be easy to make friends. Of course, there may be a few silly people that form negative ideas about you because of your looks. But, once they get to know you, the importance of looks tend to fade into the background and your personality will shine through.
