When we feel ill or have unusual medical symptoms, we usually make an appointment to see our doctors. Many of us often have to wait a day or more before we get to see someone that can help us. However, a revolution in medical care has meant doctors can diagnose and treat patients sooner.
Telemedicine is the term that gets used to describe a modern approach to patient care. In a nutshell, telemedicine is where one gets to speak to a doctor without seeing them in person. Consultations can happen over the phone or via video calls and many people even talk with doctors over video links on their smartphones.
Why More Patients Enjoy Using “Doctors on Demand”
Perhaps the most obvious benefit of using telemedicine services is the convenience factor. Patients don’t even need to leave their homes to talk to a doctor. Plus, they can seek medical help 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Patients Don’t Feel so Embarrassed
Let’s face it. Sometimes we don’t want to talk to our doctors about embarrassing problems. But, it seems we are more comfortable doing so in front of a phone than face to face.
Lower Costs
Another advantage of telemedicine is the lower costs to both patients and medical centers. Patients save a lot of money by talking to a doctor over the phone, and because consultations are often quicker, fees incurred for those services are significantly lower.
Doctors too end up saving money per patient. They can even deal with more patients each day. That results in an increase in revenue, as the infographic below, shows:
