Easy Gardening Tips for Beginners

Easy Gardening Tips for Beginners-Chispa MagazineMany people believe that gardening is a difficult hobby, which takes knowledge and time to practice effectively. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. You don’t have to be an expert gardener to look after some plants, especially if you have a suitable garden for this task. Leaving the space bare with nothing to grow is a shame.

If you have taken it upon yourself to turn your garden into a beautiful area, you only need to invest a little time and effort. Following certain easy guidelines can transform your garden and make you wonder why you never thought about starting such a project earlier. Garden care is easy when you are willing to invest in this activity. Here are several tips to get you started:

  • Pick the right plants…choosing the right plants that work well for your garden is very important. You don’t want to choose a type of plant that requires too much garden care, especially if you don’t have the knowledge on how to provide that care. Ask gardening experts about what thrives best in your growing conditions and go with it. There are plants that make for a no-fuss garden, require little pest control and thrive without too much care, so make sure you identify those and use them.
  • Add mulch…all gardening experts suggest that you add 1-2 inch deep layer of material referred to as mulch. There are plenty of types to choose from: grass clippings, shredded leaves, compost. The main purpose of mulch is to provide a layer of insulation to hold moisture in the soil and also prevent weed growth. Organic mulch also enriches the soil by decomposing slowly over time.
  • Simple watering…don’t bother with a sprinkler or a hose, as there are better alternatives out there. One of the most popular ones is a soaker hose. It will save you time, as well as effort when it comes to efficient watering. It is a permeable device, which allows water to seep slowly throughout its length and find its way to your plants. Cover the hose with mulch to ensure the water doesn’t evaporate and you have watering accounted for.
  • Be on the lookout for weeds…weeds are a problem only if you allow them to grow freely. You don’t even need specialized products to combat them. If you are vigilant, you can pull them out, while they are still young and save yourself a lot of trouble in the future. Not only is this an effective method for weed control, but also a fine way to maintain your garden looking great at all times.
  • Arm yourself with the right tools…having the right tools to work with during your gardening efforts goes a long way in making the work easy and effective. Pick tools of the right size that you feel comfortable with and that you can keep in top condition at all times. That way you will maintain your garden in top shape easily.
  • Don’t go overboard with your garden…as a gardening enthusiast, you may want to try out different ideas and projects. That is perfectly fine, as long as you have the time and energy to devote to such activities. If you leave an area unattended, it will grow out of control and that is not something you would like. Start simple and add more as you feel fit. That is a winning strategy.

There is no doubt that gardening is a wonderful activity to devote your time to. Following these simple tips will ensure that you are off to a great start.
