Adding A Timeless Touch To Your Bedroom Decor

The bedroom should be a place that’s easy to feel at rest in and, of course, easier to fall asleep in. As such, going for the comfy look, for the familiar, and for the heartwarming. As such, giving your room something of a timeless quality can help turn it into that font of nostalgic warmth that can set just the right mood for your personal haven. Here, we’re going to look at a few tips and techniques that can help you reach just that outcome.

Keep the bedding simple. While a lot of people use bedding to add additional layers of detail to their room, the more patterns or stylistic designs you rely on, the better their chance of becoming old-fashioned over time. Timeless isn’t just about calling on nostalgia, it’s also about making sure you’ll love the look of your decor years from now. For that reason, making use of simple bedding, often using one color, or complementing your bedsheet cover with your blanket’s color, can help things feel much more elegant and long-lasting. As such, your focus should be on investing in the quality of your bedding, rather than how it looks. A simple design is going to be somewhat more affordable than the other options, too.

Go for a more classical palette. If you want to go for more bold colors, then there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s all down to your taste. However, if you’re looking for a direction, then you might want to go for more hushed tones. Using monochromatic colors can keep things minimalist and neat, but neutral and soft color palettes can work just as well. This helps give the bedroom a more relaxed and natural feel. Of course, splashes of color here and there aren’t going to do any harm to the overall color scheme, either, so if you feel that it looks a little too muted, feel free to experiment a little.

Set the right scene with your walls. The walls of the bedroom are going to be the backdrop, against which everything else is set. As such, you want to use them to establish the kind of style that you’re going for. If you’re looking for nostalgic designs like toile wallpapers, you can find them here, comparing types of different patterns and colors to find those that match the scheme that you’re going for. This way, you can either choose complimentary decor items or even go for less stylistic ones so you can let the walls do the heavy lifting in terms of completing your “theme.” When it comes to picking a more classic style, you have to make sure that you love it, or else it can start to look less timeless and more dated as time goes on.

Find a few simple, natural staple pieces. When we think of timeless and classic, we tend to think of things that have stood the test of time, remained stylish on both sides, and can fit almost any room. Natural and simple materials tend to be the best fit for this. When it comes to choosing furniture for your bedroom, then look for rustic materials such as hardwoods or even options such as cork. If you have any loose storage around like baskets, then try to avoid plastics and instead go for things like the wicker or rattan baskets you can find here. These will work well with the classic palette that you might have running through the room.

Vintage textures can be just the right detail. The natural touches as named above have the advantage of not just looking timeless. They also add some depth. You don’t need a lot of visual variety to add depth, sometimes the right textural touches can be just what you need. This can include things like the floor if you opt for a hardwood floor or a PVC faux wood that emulates the grain of the real thing. For them to feel natural, you tend to need to spend a little more but it’s still much less expensive than actual hardwood. The previously mentioned wicker, cork, and rattan options are some other instances of vintage textures that can work well for that effect.

Use soft furnishings to great effect. When talking about textures, you have to talk about soft furnishings and just what kind of impact they can make on your room. Soft furnishings of any kind are going to help add some tactile comfort and warmth, of course, but there are some that have a more ageless appeal, as well. Lace is not the most contemporary material out there, but a lace throw for the bed or lace curtains can add a touch of sophistication and delicate class that is hard for other materials to match. Silk and satin sheets can be a great addition to the bed as well, but it should be noted that they’re not going to work for all seasons. They’re not all that breathable so they’re not great for hot days.

Lace is good for decor, as well. Aside from being a soft furnishing that adds some textural depth and coziness to the bedroom, lace has an aesthetic detail that is hard to mimic. As such, you should look at some of these methods of decorating with lace that goes beyond the practical. Using it on the floor, on furniture, on the windows, and even draping it from the ceiling, you can find the perfect way to add a touch of lace’s unique appeal to your home. You can go feminine and frilly with it, or you can opt for more neutral but still delicate looks, as well.

Clean lines can work wonders. There are few things more timeless than the understated look. Of course, you don’t want to go too safe, so it’s fine to have a piece or two that demands a little more attention but, in general, you should aim to use clean lines in your decor. This can include your furniture such as your drawers, closet, and the bed itself if you are buying a new one. However, you should also consider more neat lines to additions such as rugs, wall arts, soft furnishings, and other details. There’s nothing wrong with an ornamental flourish here and there but the more that you rely on them, the more visually busy and, thus, likely to age they are going to be.

Cut the clutter. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with having a few pieces that are designed purely for aesthetic purposes and to help you instill the feeling you want into your bedroom, you have to avoid overdoing it. Visual clutter is not only going to age the various components of the room by making them more likely to compete with each other over time but it’s also generally more stress-inducing. It will directly work against the kind of relaxing vibe that you might be trying to instill in your bedroom. Take the “spark joy” approach and make sure that you’re occasionally eliminating those items that don’t quite have the pull that they used to, and make sure that you have receptacles for any temporary clutter, rather than leaving them out on the open.

The timeless look is going to be largely dependent on your own tastes and what, personally, feels traditional and nostalgic for you. The inspiration above should be able to get you looking in the right direction, however, helping you create the bedroom that has that charm without feeling too old-fashioned.
