We know that moving away from a familiar neighborhood, close friends or a job that you love is tough. No one wants to pack their entire life into small cardboard boxes, but whether you’re moving just a few miles away or out of state you need to make sure some things travel with you!
Precious Memories
It’s a sad state of affairs, but items can often get lost or broken in transit if there’s a lot of boxes in the moving truck. While moving insurance is advised, when it comes to replacing priceless heirloom tea sets or tracking down a collection of crystal figurines that the moving men swore they’d packed it’s better to be safe than sorry. Avoid boxing up anything valuable, or those items that hold a lot of sentimental value such as large amounts of cash, important papers, childhood mementos, photo albums and antique jewelry.
Endless Snacks
Moving can be hungry, and thirsty work but there’s no need to pack the entire contents of Whole Foods into a cardboard box. Try to consume as many perishable goods as you can, including items you’ve been keeping in your fridge or freezer. What you don’t manage to finish can either be given to your neighbors or, if their brand new, packets can be donated to a local food bank. Why not hold a goodbye party or potluck dinner? That way you should be able to eat plenty but don’t feel bad if frozen peas go to waste as it’s not the end of the world.
Medication
If you’ve got a long move ahead of you then, by all means, pack a few pills that’ll see you through the next couple of days with no stress or pain. However, don’t feel like you need to ask for a three-month prescription supply upfront as your current doctor can easily transfer your medical history, ongoing prescription and medication details to the GP surgery in your new town. Don’t forget about Lucky’s ear drops either as all pets will need their information transferred to and you’ll need to register with a new vet as soon as is convenient.
Pot Plants
Not all places allow plants to be moved freely, especially if you’re taking them over state lines so do check before you box them up. Remember to ask your moving company if they transport plants and flowers as not all firms do. It’s also worth considering if you could do a better job moving them on your own, and putting them in a sturdy kebet.com.au cardboard box basket will ensure they won’t arrive leafless. You’ll also be able to check they have enough water and sunlight on the way as it’s not the moving crew’s job to babysit your leafy fronds and darling buds.
Your Family
Don’t worry you’re not going to pack them! However, you do need to know that everyone’s going to be taken care of on moving day. Younger kids should stay with you at all times while teens if you’re moving locally, should be OK finding their own way there if car space is severely limited.
