Take Care of the Office; Your People Will Thank

Take Care of the Office; Your People Will Thank-Chispa MagazineOne of the aspects of running a business which isn’t spoken about quite as much as it should be is the office itself. Your office space is crucial for a variety of reasons. Your staff spend every day there, so it’s a vital part of looking after them. Not to mention that you spend most of your life in your office. Too often, those running new startup businesses don’t put enough effort into ensuring that it is top-notch. But it should, in fact, take priority. It is important for everyone in the business, and, therefore, it has an enormous impact on the running of the company. Let’s have a look at some of the key things you should be doing to ensure that your office is looked after properly.

Security
Security is an absolute must, but it is so often overlooked. This is particularly true in young businesses. This might be perhaps because business owners feel there isn’t enough of value for the cost of security to be worthwhile. But this is nonsense. The truth is, even if you only have a tiny home office, you need to secure it at least in part. With a standard office setup, you need security cameras at the very least. In this day and age, not having security cameras could be likened to not locking your doors. If you have the need (and the resources), you might also like to consider hiring a security guard for the overnight period. However, that is not quite as necessary.

Emergency Contacts
The unfortunate truth is that all sorts of things can go wrong within the walls of your new office. As such, it is imperative that you have a few emergency contacts, just in case the worst happens. There are a few people you need on speed-dial. Pest control is an absolute must; if there is a rodent sighting, you need to be able to get the problem sorted as quickly as humanly possible. A-1 Kwik Dry should be second on your list. You never know when a water leakage could occur, and if it happens it could cause a tremendous amount of damage. It is always best to be as prepared as possible for any situation that may arise.

Well-Informed Staff
The safety of your staff is paramount. That’s why you need to train them well and keep them informed. Your staff needs to know about any potential health and safety hazards. You also need to ensure they are aware of protocol in case of fire. What to do, where to meet, and so on; all of this is really important. Depending on your location, it may even be a legal necessity. Even if it isn’t, it’s still something you should be doing. Take care of your people; take care of the business.

Open Design
Finally, you would do well to design your office in such a way that it’s as safe as possible. Design it so that it’s light and open, making escape easy and quick. Ensure that your cleaning staff are properly trained and keeping the whole building in perfect condition. All these little things make a huge difference in the long run. As with any other aspect of running your business, you can’t afford to take too many risks.
