Keeping Business Safe_Chispa Magazine
If you want your business to do well, there are lots of things you need to do. You need to work hard. You need to hire like-minded employees. You need to treat your customers well. But, you also need to keep your business safe. Too many people realize this after they’ve failed to keep their business safe. You not only need to keep your business safe physically, but online too. There are multiple ways you can do this, the below will help ensure you’re doing everything you can:

How to Keep Your Business Safe Online
If you don’t have an online business then you could skip this section, but most businesses today have some form of online presence, even if it’s just a website.

Protect Your Computers
Your employees will more than likely use computers, so make sure the computers themselves are protected from viruses and other threats. You may keep sensitive information on your computer, and if you don’t protect it, you risk information getting into the wrong hands. It can also be a very expensive mistake to rectify. You don’t want your sensitive information, or the sensitive information of clients to get leaked. This means you must make sure you allocate a budget to protecting your computers.

Get to Grips With Social Media
Social media is a huge part of marketing for businesses these days. It’s ridiculously effective, and makes it so easy to engage with your target market. However, it’s also a place you can get yourself in a lot of trouble if you’re not careful. You need to make sure you’re using social media appropriately, and not using language that can offend anyone. Make sure you pick the right type of people to speak on behalf of your company, and verify you’re not leaking sensitive information. Although you need to keep up with what’s being talked about, it can go very wrong. Just recently, a solicitor’s came under fire for tweeting about the accidents at Alton Towers. They were offering their services to victims of the ride crash. They didn’t get in trouble legally, but they did get a lot of stick from people online; for that reason their reputation will suffer. They deleted the tweet a short while after posting it, but the damage was already done. They no doubt would have realized the tweets were in bad taste, but there isn’t much to do, after the fact. This is why it’s so important to watch what is said.

Protect Everything With Strong Passwords
Everything should have a strong password to avoid hackers and other threats accessing sensitive information. Social media accounts have been hacked in the past, and other things have gone wrong. Make sure you come up with passwords that are difficult to remember, with a different one for each platform. You can’t be too careful.

How to Keep Your Business Physically Safe
Now you need to make sure you’re keeping your business physically safe. Finding a premises in a good location is a good place to start. However, there’s a lot more to it. Let’s take a look at what else you can do:

Have Appropriate Insurance
Insurance is the key to keeping your business safe. There’s a different kind, depending on your type of business, and the kind of people you come into contact with; make sure you’ve got the right type by reading the small print and asking many questions. If you work with clients on a regular basis, you may need insurance to protect them.

Make Sure the Workplace is Safe
Your physical workplace must be safe, as accidents can happen if you aren’t careful. In an office, you’ll need to be sure that nothing is blocking pathways and people can move around easily. If you work with kids, everything will need to be childsafe using things like mesh radiator guards from AMP wire. It all depends on the type of work you do, simply make sure the workplace is safe for everybody who comes in.

Give All Employees Proper Training
If employees aren’t given proper training, it’ll be on your head if something goes wrong. Make sure they’re all trained to a high standard and they know how to stay safe in the work place.

Consider First Aid Training
Having a trained first aid pro on site can stop anything too serious from happening; consider training some of your staff in first aid. Some businesses need one on site by law, while others it is optional.

Inspect Equipment
Inspect your equipment regularly to make sure it’s safe to use. If equipment is being used without being checked over, then something will eventually go wrong. Make sure employees know how to check the equipment too, but don’t assume they’re doing it.

Service Equipment
Equipment will need to be serviced, just like a car needs its motor. Make sure you don’t leave it too long in between servicing and get equipment fixed when needed.

Use Signs Where Appropriate
If there’s a spill, you need to use the appropriate signage to let people know it’s dangerous. There are other instances you may need signs too, so make sure you have the appropriate signs and know how to use them.

Install Safety Features and Alarms
Safety features will help to keep your physical business from threats like burglaries. Make sure you have alarms, for things like fire and theft. You should also have CCTV, but if this is too much for your budget fake CCTV cameras can do the job. Strong locks and windows will help keep your business safe, and there are plenty of other methods you can use too. Don’t try to save money by cutting back on safety features, as it could be your downfall later on.

Use these pointers to keep your business safe and you’ll have no regrets later on. Owning a business is all about taking risks, but keeping a business running is all about playing it wise and smart.
