Holograms are widely panned as ‘the prestige factor’ in advertising because the technology is producing high-quality visualizations at a reasonable price point. It’s what a brand decides to do with it that makes it interesting.
It is no secret that holograms have been a sweetheart with the public for over 30 years, since the first installment of Star Wars. Today, holograms are higher definition and much more prestige than imagined in the cult science fiction film. Frankly speaking, being a nerd is hot these days, and holograms, well, they’re a nerdgasm. It doesn’t matter who or what their vocation is, people really dig hologram shows at events and they will talk about it.
I don’t have any statistics to show for it, but a simple YouTube search brings back tens of thousands of really creative video results:167,000+ by my last count. Not bad for a relatively new technology. You can also search and view voice controlled hologram show videos that are posted online.
Memorable Use of Holograms in Marketing
Of the hologram shows I’ve seen online, the most compelling ones tend to recreate the space and use it creatively. Some of my personal favorites include a dolphin swimming in a cement floor, full-sized dinosaurs, and a true to life rain cloud formation complete with holographic rain drops; tall grass blowing in the wind out of nowhere, and a sun in the distance. Some are downright “Veldt” like and Vonnegut would be proud. Let’s look at some of the top reasons why holograms make for memorable marketing campaigns; and perhaps you too can begin using them for your business.
- They’re New-ish
Holograms have been deeply sought after for over 30 years, but the technology has taken its time to mature. Today you can hire high-quality, robust holographic display technology vendors at a cost that is completely reasonable compared to 10 years ago, or less. As a result, more people are picking up the technology for the first time. When you are in need of such displays, there are plenty of providers you can hire, like Activ8 Hologram Events UK.
- Human Input Devices
It’s also taken time for the technology behind human input devices to mature and get lower in cost. Today, human input devices have moved far beyond the keyboard and mouse; hologram interactions benefit from being able to ‘see you’ with intelligent software-driven cameras. Tools can be easily used in conjunction with holograms, such as a doctor’s virtual scalpel in a long-distance surgery, or tools like Nintendo’s Wii controllers which use a gyroscope to measure human movement, speed, etc. (This is great for tennis, baseball, bowling, etc). Whether using cameras, gyroscopes, or even laser beams, holograms are now up to speed on human interaction and that adds an additional layer of realism and wow factor to any hologram production.
- They are Limitless
From augmented reality and recreating an entire space with holograms, to bringing a good rap artist back from the grave for one last performance, a 3D hologram display is limited only by the creativity of the mind. Universal Studios has a great Harry Potter display at their theme park in Orlando that includes falling floors and holographic birds; it is most certainly worth checking out: https://youtu.be/79j1Z0SeGYU?t=17m2s
