Four CV Techniques That Could Get You That Dream Job

Four CV Techniques That Could Get You That Dream Job-Chispa MagazineSo, you’ve made your CV, and you know your local job site like the back of your hand. But for some reason, you’re still not employed. Well, if what you’re doing isn’t working, you’ve got to try something new. Here is a handful of more unusual tips that could make all the difference to getting your dream job.

Have some interview training. This technique is overlooked by many, but having interviewing training can be especially handy if this is where you keep tripping up. Strawberry Seed Consulting are one such company who offer this service, along with resume training. Consulting staff are specialists, and will treat you with empathy. Not only will they read over what you’ve already done, they’ll also help you improve things.

It could also be valuable to get in touch with the last company that turned you down for a position. Ask the HR manager if there is any specific feedback they can give you. Be vulnerable, and explain that although you were unsuccessful with their company, you are still looking for work. They might be able to tell you something useful that you can put into action.

Make a video CV. In this age of technology and social media, it has never made more sense to utilize the tools now at hand. One way to do this is to make a video CV. Far more dynamic than a paper CV, this is sure to stand out from the crowd. It is crucial to treat making a video CV as professionally you would a face-to-face interview. Wear a suit or other formal clothes, and make sure you have groomed in the same way you would if you were meeting in person.

Hit the streets. This one takes some real bravery. In 2014, Alfred Ajani was an unemployed graduate looking for a job. Less than two years later, he’s the one hiring! So what happened in between? It was an ingenious publicity stunt to make PR teams across the world green with envy. Ajani began by standing in Waterloo station and handing out his CV! He got hired and now he’s working for Asoria Group. Could you be the next Ajani?

Hand your CV to the decision maker in person. No, not in a stalker-ish way. But, if you are going up for a highly competitive job, this one could work. The trick here is to do your research thoroughly first. This technique may only work if the decision maker is a bold and intuitive type themselves. If they too were risk-takers once upon a time, become one yourself. Find a way to hand the CV in person. Don’t make a nuisance of yourself, or impinge on their day. Just a quick introduction, explanation, and then hand over your CV. When you make a follow-up call a few days later, the decision maker will remember you and likely take your call. Getting your foot in the door is half the battle.
