Five Steps to Create a Great Office Space

Keeping Your Home Office Professional-Chispa MagazineWhether you work from home or in a conventional office environment, it’s important to know how to make a beautiful space. A space that feels airy, uncluttered, and comfortable can increase our focus and productivity. A few creative solutions can also minimise the risk of work-related strains. With a beautiful, professional environment we can feel calm and collected wherever we work. It has also been noted that pleasant spaces can have a positive impact on mood and motivation.

Greenery
Plants and greenery increase the oxygen supply of the room and stop a space from appearing strict and sterile. They are an eye catching and attractive piece but they don’t run the risk of not being to everyone’s taste. Ornaments can be sharp, fragile or cumbersome, for example. Some art and posters can be pretty to some but garish to others. Even if everyone in the room likes them, clients and visitors may not. Plantshowever, are classic and pleasant in almost everyone’s eyes and work as a pleasant visual addition to any color scheme.

Sound Levels
Controlling the sound level of a busy office can be very hard to achieve. In a bustling working atmosphere, conversations, discussions and phone calls are all necessary. However, with a bit of additional furniture you can significantly reduce unwanted noise. Acoustic screens are an excellent solution and can give added peace and privacy to specific areas of the room. They reduce distractions and also create a sense of professional intimacy to discuss with colleagues or clients. Incorporating them into an office space can be a far more practical solution that attempting to position people further apart.

Air Circulation
Opening windows is perhaps the most common solution to airlessness but it is not always practical. Traffic fumes or construction sounds can all disturb the atmosphere of the office and make it difficult to concentrate. Consider investing in individual fans for desks or an air conditioning system that also freshens the air. A good air supply is essential for feeling fresh and alert.

Seating
Chairs, sofas, and other forms of seating in an office space help to create a specific atmosphere. They can be either relaxed and inviting, corporate and professional, or simply uniform and functional. What is important; however, is that they are ergonomically designed to fully support the back. Being comfortable and supported while working is essential for avoiding injuries like repetitive strain.

Hydration
Staying hydrated has been recognized as an important part of health and well being. In a crowded office environment it is more important than ever. A lot of demands are placed on both our mind and body when we work and it is important that we can meet them effectively. Many studies have shown that adults are not drinking enough water to hydrate them in the day and that this can lead to drowsiness and even overeating. Consider having a water dispenser or kettle in a designated space so that everyone can drink when they see fit. It may seem a casual or informal addition, but can increase productivity if it eliminates the need to leave the office.
