Travel Safe: Destinations for a Safe Vacation

All You Need to Travel Safe and Sound-Chispa MagazineIt’s hard to hide away from it; the news won’t stop reporting on it and now the tourism industry is suffering. Terrorism has made certain areas unsafe for public travel, but that shouldn’t mean that we should lock ourselves away. We need to carry on travelling and seeing this glorious world of ours because there is still a lot of good left in it. So I’m just going to go over a quick summary of some of the more dangerous areas to travel to and the safer ones.

Russia and Southern US
I’m just going to start with a non-terrorist related entry. For the LGBT community Russia and the Southern States of America (specifically South Carolina) aren’t that safe due to recent anti-LGBT laws. They can still be visited, but make sure you are aware of the laws there and how the local population will take to you.

Turkey
Turkey has always been a very popular destination for tourists, but it’s one that is having a string of problems due to its border countries. The northern ‘western’ area of Turkey is still a viable option for holiday makers, as long as they are careful and stay safe. Southern Turkey should be avoided.

North Africa
Ever since the Arab Spring, North Africa and the Middle East have been becoming increasingly unstable. Holiday makers are still flocking to Egypt, but I would warn against it. A friend of mine recently visited Egypt and there were a lot of men walking around with automatic weapons and they weren’t police. They didn’t seem to be threatening, but it is still cause for concern.

Now onto the brighter side of life.

America
You may feel that due to America’s involvement in the war on terror that it would be a prime candidate for attack, but due to its geographical remoteness and its defensive strategies, it remains one of the safest locations on the planet. If you’re still not convinced, maybe stay away from the bigger cities like New York and instead holiday in places like Florida and San Francisco. A good way to see America would be via an escorted tours company. This way you will have an expert to guide you to the must see spots as well as keep you safe due to their knowledge of the area.

France
France has always been one of the most popular tourist destinations for the entire world. It currently (by last count) is the number one tourist destination. After the Paris attacks people started to get a little hesitant about booking their annual holiday here, but the Paris attack only means that France’s borders are stronger than ever and so France would be one of the safer places in Europe right now. Again, if concerned, stay away from Paris and instead see Cannes or Nice instead.

Scandinavia
Due to their general political neutrality, the Scandinavian countries are some of the safest in the world. They are also some of the most beautiful. Scandinavia has an excellent police force and infrastructure and if you’re planning your next getaway then I couldn’t think of anywhere better then here.
