Top Considerations For Your Home Remodel

Home Remodel_Chispa MagazineRedesigning your home is an exciting challenge many of us dream of doing. Whatever property we buy, there will always be something we want to tweak. You may have to save up for a few years, but finally when the time comes, you can begin to plan your changes. Perhaps you are building an extension or conservatory? Maybe you are trying to achieve a more open plan look and feel to the living area? Whatever your project, there are plenty of challenging tasks ahead of you’ yet; anything and everything is possible:

Structure and Form
The structure of your new room can be imagined by you, but normally must be formalized by an architect. Architects have the engineering and building know-how to design a room. It’s essential to plan works without causing any structural problems in your home. Perhaps you are building a home office in your loft. Without the architect, you may not be sure how to create the right load bearing floor or the right width stairway. Having the space is no good if you can’t get your furniture up there.

Light, Air + Warmth
Your new space is likely to need open windows so you can get fresh air into the room. Natural light is essential to any room. You may also need this window to act as an emergency exit in the event of a fire. Having lots of windows may make the room too cold in the winter, so think carefully about what you really need. Try to place the window to frame the best of the view outside too. When it comes to living in the room, you need to be able to keep the windows clean and well maintained. These days it’s essential to find window care that is eco-friendly, so you are not impacting on your environment. Ensure windows are placed where they can be cleaned easily.

Decor
The use of the room will determine your color scheme and style design. If you are creating a new kitchen, you may want a sleek, modern finish in gloss blacks, whites, and reds. For a cozy living room, lighter shades of taupe, lavender, and lime work very well. Dining rooms may call for vibrant and bold colors like blues and purples. The flooring for most rooms will be hardwood or tile. Office spaces and living rooms often benefit from carpet to create a softer feel.

Furnishing
Where you place some of your furniture may be determined back in the early planning stages. A living room will need points for power, TV aerials and lighting. The location of these will be where those items of furniture will need to be placed. Seating is often placed to take advantage of the best view. This could be toward the window, or a fireplace, and TV.

Whatever space you are designing, it won’t be cheap, and the price may restrict your choices, but it’s fun to have a perfect room imagined though. Start there and then gradually peel back the layers of the idea to what is needed and affordable.
