Moreover, the homemade solutions are made out of ingredients that you probably already have in your home. This gives you plenty of advantages. One, the baking soda, the lemon juice and the dishwashing detergent, for example, are safe for the texture of the furnishings or even for the delicate fibers of the natural carpets and upholstery. Two, there is no need to spend time for searching for the best commercial detergents, nor to read the labels in order to make sure that you buy exactly that you are looking for. Last but not least, the homemade detergents are much cheaper, than the all-purpose commercial detergents, or when compared with the professional detergents used by the professional cleaners.

  1. Homemade solution for carpets, rugs and other coverings with long fibers: Mix a couple of cups of hot water with a small amount of baking soda, powder laundry detergent and shampoo in a medium-size bowl. Stir well and you will get a perfect upholstery cleaning solution that you can apply directly onto the stains. There is no need to dilute the mixture like most of the powerful commercial detergents. Apply the mixture right onto the stains with a clean towel and rub in circular motion all around the stain, then the very center of the stain. For some truly persistent stains of coffee, tea, ketchup or other kitchen grease spots – it`s recommended to let the solution overnight to soak and dislodge the stain from the very base of the carpet. On the next morning, wipe off the excess and finish with another clean towel soaked in clean water. Let the wet spot to dry naturally on a direct sunlight for a couple of hours.
  2. Homemade solution for leather upholstery: One of the simplest and easiest solutions features just cold soapy water with a little bit of lemon juice. The lemon juice acts as a deodorizer too, while the soapy water will help eliminate all the greasy spots and traces, which are usually everywhere from the seat to the back of the leather chairs. The areas under the armrests of some big sofas and chairs are also most vulnerable to the greasy spots, while with this solution, you get a quick and easy way to get rid of them during the upholstery cleaning. Another great tip is to finish the already cleaned leather upholstery with a clean cloth and a special wax for leather, which will protect the delicate leather texture and pigmentation from further stains.
  3. Homemade solutions for all other textile surfaces and fabrics: From curtains to pillows and blankets – they all get dirty quite easily and a thorough cleaning once a month is something that you don`t want to miss. Yet it might be much easier and cheaper by mixing just hot water with a small amount of dish detergent and shampoo in a bowl. This solution is great only for a treatment of small spots or when you just don`t want to use the laundry machine for cleaning the entire textile objects.
  4. Homemade solution for tiled flooring and grout: It comes to cold water, white vinegar, dish detergent, and rubbing alcohol. According to how much you`re mixing, you can get a perfect detergent to deal with darker heavily soiled grout lines, as well as polish the tiles in the bathroom or when kitchen cleaning. Use a stiff brush when applying the mixture along the grout lines.
  5. Homemade solution for glass, windows, mirrors, and porcelain: Here, just cool water and white vinegar can be enough if you regularly clean the windows. The wet wipes are often useful too. Window cleaning is no longer a hassle.
