Five Tips for Removing Snow from Around Your Home

Most of the time, winter is fun. Everyone is excited for Christmas; people get to go on holiday with their friends and family and there’s a general sense of optimism around the world.

Amongst all of this, though, is snow.

Snow is divisive: some people love it, whilst others truly hate it! Whichever side you’re on, it’s fair to say that – excluding snowball fights and sledding – snow is a bit of a hindrance.

It creates roadblocks and traffic, causes events to be cancelled, makes the temperature freezing cold, and (of course) covers people’s homes and cars. It only takes a single night of snow for your driveway, backyard, and roof to be covered in 1 foot of snow – which can be a major inconvenience.

But don’t worry, as this guide is here to help you. Keep reading for 5 tips on how to remove snow from around your home when it snows this year!

1.    Use a powerful snow blower

The quickest and best way to remove snow from around your home, particularly the driveway and surrounding paths, is by using a Troy-Bilt snow blower.

A snow blower gives you the power. Once you turn it on, you’ll be able to efficiently remove any snow in front of you – it’s a true life saver. In fact, your neighbors will probably ask if they can borrow your snow blower, as they’ll be envious of your spotless driveway and yard!

2.    Use rock salt or sand

Rock salt (which is currently in high demand) and sand are some of your best friends when it comes to removing and nullifying the impact of snow and ice.

All you have to do is sprinkle generous amounts of rock salt or sand on problem areas. For example, if your driveway is easily exposed to snow and ice, you should sprinkle it there every morning and night (following the weather forecast will allow you to stay one step ahead).

Doing this is a super smart way to operate in the winter. After all, no one wants to step outside their home and experience a nasty fall to due slipping on snow or ice. So, do yourself a big favor and use rock salt or sand!

3.    Grab a shovel (and shovel frequently)

Shovels are a classic way to handle snow. For generations, people have used shovels to remove snow from problem areas, whether it’s a busy road or front door entrance.

Using a shovel is easy – it’s your fitness that matters. After 5 minutes of using a shovel, you might begin to tire; so, make sure that you stretch your arms and legs prior to using one. If not, you’ll risk potential injury.

4.    Dress accordingly

Removing snow requires you to dress accordingly. Wear shoes with excellent grip, as well as gloves and warm clothing. This way, your hands and body won’t go cold and numb whilst you’re doing the hard work.

5.    Plan ahead

As mentioned previously, weather forecasts are important. Sure, weather forecasts aren’t always correct, but they’re still a reasonably reliable source. Therefore, during winter and snowy periods, make sure to regularly check the forecast so that you can plan ahead. For example, if a heavy snowstorm is coming the next day, you can prepare your snow blower, shovel, and rock salt in advance.
