It’s always important to pay attention to your eyes, as they can start to struggle at any age. If you are concerned about your eyesight, you should book in to see an optician as soon as possible for a test, to have some peace of mind that everything’s OK, or to get the right glasses if you need them. Below is a list of five basic signs that your eyes are struggling and need glasses to see properly.
- Blurred Vision
Sometimes if your eyes are tired, or you have managed to get an irritant into your eyes, your vision might blur. However, if this is often occurring and for no apparent reason, it could indicate that you need glasses. You should always see an optometrist check your eyes for abnormalities. If your eyes are fine, contact a doctor to check that your blurred vision isn’t a result of a different health issue.
- Headaches
Headaches are a very common sign that you may need glasses, particularly if the pain seems to be concentrated around or behind your eyes. You may notice this happening a lot if you’re working at a computer screen, but if it doesn’t happen when you’re doing other things like reading a book, try blue-light blocking glasses and see if they make a difference when you’re working. If you notice you’re getting headaches or any of these other symptoms when you’re reading text both on and off computer screens, you may need reading glasses. Get your eyes tested and figure out what the best reading glasses are for your eyes.
- Squinting
You might have to squint due to bright light or because an object is far away, but if you’re finding yourself squinting to read a piece of text in front of you or to make out something that isn’t at a great distance, this is another common indicator you need glasses. It could be due to farsightedness if you’re struggling to make out things that are closer to you rather than further away.
- Irritated or Tired Eyes
Everyone experiences tired eyes, particularly after a long day. While this is nothing to be worried about, if you have noticed that your eyes grow tired after a short time, this is something that might require your attention. It could be due to not getting enough rest throughout the night, but if you are sleeping well, not dealing with stress, and otherwise happy and healthy, it could be your eyes telling you they need a bit of help.
- Auras
This symptom might not happen as often as the ones above, but it’s a stronger indicator of whether or not you need glasses. If you have noticed that objects appear to have a right of light radiating from them, or in other terms, an aura, this is a bit more of a clear cut sign you need glasses. Of course, if your eye tests come back fine, you should see a doctor to check for symptoms of any other medical problems to be on the safe side.
Don’t ignore the signs of struggling eyes, and if they’re left untreated, the problem could get worse. Use these five signs as a basic guide to spotting strained eyes that could need glasses.
