Where Will Your Writing Talents Take You?

Writing Talent-Chispa MagazineThe art of the written word is slowly evolving into emoji and short texts. Fortunately, this means there is a high demand for skilled writers in a variety of job roles. Don’t be fooled into thinking you instantly need a writing related degree to make a decent living as a writer; as long as you can prove you have a flair for the written word, and you have some other impressive qualifications to back you up, you can pretty much start your writing career in any industry. Here are just a few things you can do as a writer.

Translator
Anyone can structure a proper sentence in one language, but if your writing skills are still flawless in a second language, you’ll be in high demand as a translator. Bilingual and multilingual translators can always find jobs as technical writer, or you can write travel articles and reports for publications all over the world.

Court Reporters
You don’t have to become a lawyer to have a career in law. While you might have to get a certificate from the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) either online or in person, if you can type fast and with accuracy, then you might have what it takes to join the ranks of court reporters. Successful graduates must capture at least 225 words per minute to qualify, but with some hard work and extreme focus there is no reason why this couldn’t be your career.

Social Media Manager
All companies recognize the social media has opened up a lot of opportunities for free advertising, but only if they post content that is engaging to their readers. Unfortunately, not everyone on staff as the time to manage the social media platforms, nor do they have any knowledge on how to make a post trend. A good writer knows how to create the kind of engaging content that will spark a host of retweets, reposts, and endless debates. If you’ve got valuable social media experience and know how to write engaging content, you’ll be in high demands with companies looking to expand their online presence (which is pretty much all of them).

Executive Assistant
If you like a bit of variety in your jobs, then a role as an executive assistant might be right for you. One moment you might be constructing a briefing for your boss and the next moment you could be preparing documents to go in the company’s annual report. You might even get a chance to write a speech for the executive, or articles for the public. It is not uncommon for executive assistants to write personal notes such as thank you notes to visiting partners.

Blogger
While it’s true that anyone could create a blog as a hobby, many people are actually able to make money from their blog, either through affiliate marketing, or getting paid for their content. You can do blogging as a side job, or make it the first step in the self-employment chapter of your life.
