Ambitious Women_Chispa Magazine
As much as we hate to say it, the working world is still very different for women and men. Inequality in pay and senior roles are still evident in the statistics. But the good news is that things are getting better, albeit slowly. A lot more women hold managerial and executive positions than in the past. And the number of businesses owned by women has doubled over the last few years. If you are a determined woman look for advice on how to reach your employment goals, you’ve come to the right place. Here are our top career tips for ambitious women.

Create a Career Path
Unfortunately, you can’t just click your fingers and be in your dream career. You will have to embark on a journey to get to that position. Set yourself goals and create a plan for achieving each one. Ask yourself those tough questions like: Where do I want to be? How will I get there? If you are not sure where to start, look for advice from reputable career websites or ask people who are doing your dream job how they got to where they are.

Put in the Hard Work
Fulfilling your career goals requires hard work, full stop. You may have to sacrifice your social life for a while. You might have to take on an internship or work experience. These kinds of challenges are par for the course. If you maintain a good attitude through the hard work, you’ll get much more value out of it.

Don’t be Afraid to Negotiate
You know the old saying: if you don’t ask, you won’t get. Statistics show that men are more likely to negotiate their salary and other elements of their job roles early in the recruitment stage. Starting negotiations as soon as possible and being clear about your expectations (with yourself and your employer) will help you to get what you deserve. It is also advantageous to keep these kind of negotiations ongoing. Use appraisal meetings as an opportunity to communicate your goals to your boss.

Work with Inspiring Women
We chicas got to stick together! Find female mentors in the working world who motivate you to reach your career goals. For example, if you are qualified in criminal law, look for a firm of criminal lawyers that are led by successful and inspiring women who you can learn a lot from. Most women you meet in your career will be more than willing to give you career-related advice and guidance, so don’t be afraid to ask for it!

Always be Nice
You may be determined to get to the top. But stomping on other people to get there will only come back to bite you. Contrary to what you might think, successful women are not mean. They are determined, and there’s a big difference. Be respectful and kind to others on your journey to the top and you can expect to be treated in the same way.
