Defying The Odds: Four Careers That Women Can Totally Rock

woman-office-chispa magazineWe are lucky to be living in a world that is increasing its level of respect for both men and women in the workplace. Many years ago it seemed almost impossible for women to get into certain careers just because of their gender. Luckily, in the modern day world society is much more open to the idea of gender equality and why shouldn’t they be? After all, it has been proven that women can be just as successful as their counterparts. Whether you’re thinking of making a big career change or you’re just looking to explore your options, here are a few career paths that might appeal to you unexpectedly.

Transport Drivers
From train navigators to truck drivers, more and more women are paving their path in the transport industry. Jobs such as these are extremely well paid and you can head into them with an array of qualifications. You might not have studied a specific degree in college or you changed your mind about the direction you want to go. If you’re interested in driving a truck you will need to do paid cdl training in order to get your license. The world will then be your oyster and you can work your way up in the industry. Nowadays there are many well respected female transport drivers who may well be earning considerably more money than their other halves.

Emergency Services
We’re grown up to believe that if we are ever caught in a fire a big strong man with come to our rescue. Firefighting is no longer a career solely for males; physically and mentally women are completely competent enough to follow this career path if they’re passionate about it. Ambulance drivers and paramedics also used to be a male dominated industry and women are slowly but surely counteracting this stereotype.

Engineers
You don’t have to be a man to make a successful career in engineering. For many years in history there have been some amazing contributions from extremely intelligent female engineers. Many female engineers have worked hard to become recognized for their successes so you could do this too. There are so many problems out there that need to be solved, so the engineering sector need diversity in order to get these jobs done. Girls need to be taught from a young age that engineering is a rewarding and exciting career path that they can succeed in.

Computer Scientists
The vast majority of computer science jobs are currently filled by men, in fact it has been said that less than 20 percent of computer science graduates are female. The list of pioneering women in the industry is now growing, but we need to fight our way to the forefront of this sector and give women the recognition they deserve.

Whatever your passion is, you can be sure that you can conquer any industry you want. As a woman you should be striving to defy the norms of society. Follow your dreams and thrive in the sector you were born to succeed in.
