Daydreamin’ Blues

Chispa MagazineBig house. Flashy cars. Fancy clothes. The ideal husband. It’s the true American Dream we all wish for.

I often sit back and daydream of what God has in store for me. The possibilities are endless. I dream of whether I’ll become a fashion designer or an athlete or a teacher or a doctor. Even with those possibilities, I just can’t help dreaming about what I desire most: Becoming a radio and talk show personality.

America is the “go-to” country for following your dreams. Even though the saying “Anything is possible” is very cliché, its also very true. Dreaming is fun and exciting but a dream without a plan, without action will remain nothing but a dream.

As I get older, my dreams become more realistic, more pronounced. After years of daydreaming, I’m finally at the age where I can start chasing those dreams. I’ve been blessed with many opportunities and opened doors, but this did not come by just counting the stars. No, no, no. I got up and did something. I made phone calls, reached out to people, everything I could think of, but most importantly, I PRAYED. Because everyone knows, closed mouths don’t get fed.

Everyone has a dream. Everyone wants something better for themselves but not everyone is willing to put in the work that makes the dream come alive and that’s where they fall short and the dream dies. It’s sad to say, but some of us teens are extremely lazy. The opportunities are there, you just have to go get them. Nothing is handed to you in life and nothing worth having comes easily. We have to set our own dreams into motion, no matter the level of difficulty because if we don’t, who will?

But I digress…

Back to daydreamin’ I go. Coming up with new master plans. Playmaking different career moves. Planning a vacation in the Virgin Islands with my future husband. Shopping for a brand new Mercedes for Mother’s Day. Throwing the premier party for the debut of my talk show. Shaping my future with the simplicity of my thoughts. Man, I could just daydream all day. Couldn’t you?
