Do You Have a Healthy Relationship?

Do You Have a Healthy Relationship-Chispa MagazineA healthy relationship is a relationship that can stand the test of time. If your relationship isn’t healthy, eventually it’ll crumble. It might take months, it might take years, but it could happen. Here’s how you know if you have a healthy relationship, and which areas may need improvement:

You’re Open and Honest
A healthy relationship should be open and honest. If you hide things from one another, this isn’t very healthy at all. You need to say something if you’re annoyed with your partner, for whatever reason. Bottling it up can cause even more issues. Hiding other things is a big issue too. Ask yourself whether you and your boyfriend are really open and honest.

Your Needs are Being Met
Everybody has their own unique needs in a relationship. Some more than others. It’s essential that your needs are being met in your relationship and that you are meeting his needs too; so be honest with yourself when you ask this one. What are your needs, and what are your boyfriend’s needs?

You Communicate Well
Communication is key to a long lasting relationship. You should be able to sort out disputes fairly easily and come to a conclusion that suits you both. You should understand one another well, and avoid trying to score points. Truth: No one wins when communication lacks.

You Have Fun Together
Having fun in a relationship is a must. Do you and your boyfriend spend your free time having lots of fun together, or do you hate spending leisure time together? Don’t get complacent. All relationships need lots of fun.

You Agree on the Big Stuff
The big stuff includes kids, marriage, where you’re going to live… that sort of thing. You need to agree on this stuff, or at least be willing to be flexible over it. If one wants kids and the other doesn’t, your relationship probably isn’t going to survive. If you want your long-distance boyfriend to move over to you but they’re reluctant to get a fiance visa, it may not work. This is why communication is so important.

You Offer Support
One of the best things about being in a relationship is having support when you need it. If you both offer one another genuine support when you need it, you sound like a good team.

You Have Your Own Space
It isn’t healthy for couples to spend every minute of the day together. You should have your own space, hobbies, and privacy too. You shouldn’t feel the need to share social media passwords with one another, as this spells distrust. You should respect one another’s individual hobbies, no matter how weird. You should have nights with your friends, and even holidays apart. Having your own space is very important. You are individuals, after all.

Answer these questions honestly and work out whether your relationship is healthy. If not, are you ready to speak to your boyfriend and do something about it?
