The Different Stages of Engagement

The Different Stages of Engagement-Chispa MagazineGetting engaged is different for every couple. Some women hope for a romantic proposal and then spend a year planning the perfect wedding. Others casually agree to become their partner’s fiancée, then agree to have a long engagement and tie the knot in a registry office. However you choose to get engaged and get married, you can feel a definite shift in your relationship. You’re in the period before you tie yourselves together, legally, spiritually, and emotionally. You can go through a lot of stages. You’ll feel different emotions and think about your engagement in various ways. Here are some of the stages you might go through in your engagement as the wedding approaches.

The Engagement Honeymoon
When you first get engaged, it’s exciting. It’s also a bit frightening, and maybe you can’t quite believe it. But, overall, you’re happy, and you can’t wait to tell everyone. In fact, people might get a bit tired hearing about it. If you haven’t already been presented with a ring, now’s the time to go shopping for designer engagement rings. You can go with a traditional diamond or choose something a little more unusual. If you have a ring already, you might need to resize it. This is the time when you can bask in your newly engaged status and make lots of over-exaggerated hand gestures.

Settling into Your New Status
After a few weeks, or perhaps a couple of months, even you are a little fed up of saying that you’re engaged. You’re still super excited about it all, but the shock has worn off and you’re getting used to being a bride-to-be, instead of just a girlfriend. You could have plenty of time to enjoy your new relationship status, but then again, everything changes again.

Better Start Planning
Eventually, you’ll remember there’s an end goal to being engaged; it’s called getting married. And, there won’t be a wedding unless you start planning it. Some couples set the date as soon as they’re engaged, whereas others might only have a vague idea. No matter the length of your engagement, you need to book a venue and start organizing. This is when everything begins to become a bit more real. As you look for a band and choose flowers, the pressure of creating a perfect day can be bit much. But, remember they’re won’t be a marriage unless you start working on it with mentors or counselors.

Frantic Last-minute Wedding Plans
As the wedding and your marriage creeps ever closer, you can start to panic. What if something goes wrong? What if one of you gets cold feet? Even if you’ve tried to be as organized as possible, you can find that you’re left with things to sort out at the last minute. But, even as you get nervous and stressed, the excitement comes back full-force as well. It won’t be long until you’re married to the person you love and the person you will stay with for the rest of your life.

Being engaged can be a strange feeling, which makes you happy, but also feels like you’re in between something too. As you wait for the wedding, don’t forget to enjoy being engaged and enjoy each other.
