Tips For A Fantastic Gap Year On The Road

Tips For A Fantastic Gap Year On The Road-Chispa MagazineWhen you decide to take a gap year, it’s important not to waste it. This is your chance to see the world or gain some new experiences. It’s not a time where you should spend your days lying in bed or binge watching Netflix; the world is filled with possibilities. It doesn’t matter how amazing people say Making A Murderer is, it’s nothing compared to what you could experience out there.

We think one of the best ways to spend your gap year is to head out for a year on the road; this way, you can limit costs because you won’t be traveling abroad. But, you’ll still get a chance to explore new places. Here are some of the best tips we can offer for this type of gap year.

Get A Trailer
If you’re heading out on the open road, you’ll need somewhere to stay. As a school leaver out on the road, you probably won’t have enough money to stay in hotel after hotel. Instead, you should use that money you’ve saved over the years to purchase a trailer. Travel trailers are cheap with ones available to buy at just over five grand. Once you have that you can go wherever you like and stay anywhere for as long as you wish. It’s a fantastic opportunity, but you’ll also have to check you have the right car to tow it. Not all vehicles are capable of pulling a trailer so you’ll have to check this out. Generally speaking, anything with four-wheel drive is a safe bet.

Pay For Your Travel
Wondering how you’re going to pay for your year out? The way we see it, you have two options: Either you can set up a travel blog, chartering your experiences. If you do this, make sure you start the blog before you head off. Get people interested and then start posting stories and pictures. Make it exciting and ensure that you engage with your followers on social media. After a couple of months of constant writing, you will start to gain interest from advertisers.

Or, you may wish to take on work as you travel. You’ll find there are lots of jobs available for travelers. Although, you’ll often find these are the jobs that no one else wants to take, usually due to low amounts of pay. If you want more exciting job opportunities, make sure you learn a few skills before hand such as first aid or a second language.

Choosing Your Destination
The destination of this gap year road trip doesn’t matter. As we said, there is a whole world of exciting opportunities. Wherever you go, you’re bound to find something interesting to see or do. You just need to make sure you’re open to new experiences, and you’ll be amazed at what you’ll discover. By the end of the year you’ll have seen more of the world than you ever will in the next stage of your life.

Have fun on your gap year and remember not to waste it. You only live once.
