Things You Need To Know When Moving To LA

Things You Need To Know When Moving To LA-Chispa MagazineLos Angeles has quite the reputation surrounding it, and that didn’t come out of the blue. This is the one sure place where so many creatives can spread their wings. Aside from that, it’s one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Moving to LA can totally transform your life for the better. However, there are a few things you should know before going ahead with it.

The first thing you should know is where you live matters a lot more than you’d think. The main thing to consider is you need to drive to get almost anywhere. You might Google Maps a block of Los Angeles apartments and think oh it’s only twenty minutes from my new job. Don’t take that as a given. Geographically, there may not be that much distance between point A and point B . However, when you experience typical LA traffic you’ll discover that travel takes much longer than you’d expect! If and when you move, make sure you can embrace having to drive everywhere.

Another thing about LA is that a guide is pretty much a requirement when you first move there. If you don’t make friends with a native, you could end up missing out on a lot of what LA has to offer. With many other cities, all the gems are situated in one bustling center. Of course, the Sunset Strip is pretty hard to miss. However, a lot of the best restaurants, bars and venues in LA are tucked away in little corners. In one of the most bohemian cities in America, there are a lot of these, so don’t miss out. If you want to steer clear of all the overpriced tourist traps, then start making friends as soon as you arrive.

If you’re a particularly social person, then you should learn about the dinner party culture in LA. Whereas people in other cities will make reservations at a nice restaurant, Angelinos are much more inclined to invite you to their home.

Finally, you should know the traffic cops don’t mess around. In many other places in the US, running a red, or doing a couple over the speed limit isn’t really a big deal. In LA, on the other hand, the smallest infraction can bring the law straight down on your head.

Keep these points in mind, and your move to LA will be nice and smooth. There are many other points to cover, of course. If you want to learn how to swim though, you’ve got to jump in the water.
