Six Hacks To Make Your Road Trip Even Better

Six Hacks To Make Your Road Trip Even Better-Chispa MagazineWhy do you love road trips so much? Is it the sense of freedom you get from being able to travel? Is it all the new places you discover along the way? Or, is it the new people that you meet?

But, road trips can also come with their drawbacks. That’s why we’ve put together these six hacks so you can make your next road trip even better.

Take Pictures
We have a tendency to adapt really well to new situations. We might be in a far off land on an epic voyage of discovery, but our surroundings can very rapidly feel normal. And because of this, we neglect to take photos.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So take lots of pictures to put in scrapbooks at a later date to remind you of your experience. Great pictures allow you to relive those epic moments over and over again.

Plan Fuel Costs
There’s nothing worse than going on a road trip and finding out the fuel costs are going to bankrupt you. Use a fuel calculator tool and work out how much you’ll need to spend in advance. Fuel costs vary dramatically between countries, so this is worth bearing in mind.

Stop At The Gas Station
This might seem like an obvious one, but stopping for fuel, even when you don’t really need it, is a good idea. Too many road trips are ruined by running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. So stock up on fuel in advance.

And don’t forget, you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself. So while you’re at the gas station, stock up on all the treats you’ll need for your journey. We’re thinking tubs of ice cream and 3-liter Big Gulps.

Don’t Take A Smartphone
Smartphones are great, but on a road trip, they can distract you from the experience. Constantly being bombarded with emails and Facebook is not what road trips are about. Road trips are about freedom!

Take an old-fashioned mobile in case you run into trouble and forget the rest. Tell your friends and family what happened after you get back. It’ll make for a far better story.

Keep Plenty Of Cash On You At All Times
In some countries, you have to pay to use the roads. Keeping cash for tolls in a secure place means you’re never left scrambling for pennies under the seat or looking for a cash machine.

Make New Friends
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, make new friends. When it comes down to it, it’s not usually the scenery or the food that we remember about road trips. It’s the relationships we form.

When you stop in the evening at a campsite or a motel, get involved with any activities. Don’t be shy. If there is a game of soccer going on, ask if you can enter as a team. Once you break the ice, you’ll find that most people are a lot of fun.
