New Year, Yet Already Thinking About Summer? How to Pack Light For Your Summer Vacation

Summer Skin Ready_Chispa MagazineWhen the weather outside is grey and cold, it can have us all dreaming about warmer climates. Perhaps its time to plan a summer vacation. Whether you have one planned or not, we all have one thing in common: we need to pack for travel. How many of us overpack, though? I think we can all relate to taking four or five dresses on vacation and then only actually wearing one or two. Here are some tips to help you pack for your summer holiday, as light and efficiently as possible.

Write a List
Note down how many days you will be at your haute spot and write a rough plan for each day. If you are going to be mostly at the beach, you probably won’t need too many day outfits. You’d just need your swimwear or bikinis and a beach dress or shorts. If you plan to be out and about and active on your vacation, you most likely don’t need as much swimwear. You would need to make sure you pack the right types of footwear and appropriate clothing for the activities. Think about evenings too. Will you be in the hotel or villa? Will you eat out or be going clubbing? Having a rough plan will help you to narrow down what to take.

Lay the Clothes Out
Get out all the possible outfits and clothes that you might take. Lay them on the bed and then you need to be ruthless. Using your list, only put in the things you will use. No need to take six pairs of shoes when you are only going away for five days! Try to go for staple pieces that will go with everything, like a white vest top or black shorts. You should also think about accessories too. Do you need to take more than one pair of sunglasses for one week away? How about jewelry? Again, go for pieces that will match the most outfits.

Toiletries
Even if you are checking your suitcase, it is a good idea to use smaller bottles for your beauty and toiletry items. You can buy these smaller bottles from most supermarkets and chemist stores. You will be saving space from taking smaller bottles but also saving on weight. If you are going away for a week, you don’t need a full, regular sized bottle of shampoo.

For return travel, the small bottles may be empty, but they are light to bring back. Meaning you will have the extra weight limit for your bag, for gifts and souvenirs.

Wear Your Heavy Items
To save space and baggage allowance, wear your heaviest items to the airport or station. No need to pack jeans and shoes if you can wear them. These will weigh more than traveling in a summer dress and flip flops. With a lot of airlines charging quite a lot to check bags, you want to make the most of what you can take.
