Sister team Cristina and Monica Souza are Brazilian born interior designers, whose passion and love provoke the style that serves as the foundation of Avant Design. Cristina, President of Avant Design established her company in 2000, as a full-service design firm specializing in providing each client with a unique and extremely personal design experience.
Having attended Miami International University of Art, Cristina received a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. However, the desire to design was always innate.
“When I was 5 years old and my mother purchased a sofa I hated and cried and cried until she returned it and purchased the sofa I loved. At 17, I was designing my friends’ bedrooms, and at 19 years old, I was designing entire homes,” she says with a smile.
Once she moved to Miami, she worked at the prestigious design firm Levine, Calderin & Associates, and after a few years there, she followed her heart and opened Avant Design Group.
Monica on the other hand began her career as a designer of shoes, handbags, and dresses where she won numerous awards and received much acclaim.
After many years of success though, Monica found that designing for fashion was extremely impersonal and wanted to connect with clients on a greater level. With the encouragement of her sister, seven years ago she joined Avant Design as Vice President. “Working closely with Cristina on projects made me realize I could be designing things that actually make a difference in the lives of my clients.”
The Souza sisters grant their clients the gratification that they live in the place they visualized at the beginning of the project. They believe that every single venture is diverse and have a desire for projects to challenge them.
