Get Your Employees To Trust You With These Tips

Never Underestimate the Importance of Networking-Chispa MagazineAsk most people what they think is the most important thing in a romantic relationship, and they will probably say ‘trust’. It is virtually impossible to build a well rounded and solid relationship without a great deal of trust being present, as anyone who has experienced dishonesty will tell you. But trust isn’t just something that needs to be present between you and your partner, or between you and your best friend. It is also an integral component of business, and between yourself (as a boss) and your employees. If you have only just started taking on staff to help with the running of your business, you may find that you need to do quite a lot to win them over. Bear in mind that they may not have the same passion and drive for your business idea that you have, and they don’t 100 percent know for sure whether everything is going to work out or not. That is why, to achieve the best results, you need to get them on your side and build a strong foundation of trust between the two of you. Unsure how to get started? Simply follow these tips.

Know what you are talking about. You have to give credit where credit is due, and your employees are probably going to be a lot more perceptive than you originally may think. They will be able to spot any weakness or lies from a mile away, so make sure you exude authenticity to build a culture of trust. It can be a good idea to back yourself up with qualifications so that your staff know you aren’t merely all talk and no action. You can get a coaching qualification from Animas that can teach you how to effectively lead a team in an internal situation, and your staff can rest assured in the knowledge that you are experienced.

Don’t throw blame around. A sure fire sign of an untrustworthy person is when blame is passed around in the event of any shortcoming. This will leave people on edge and wary of your ability to take responsibility for anything; and if you are not confident in your actions, how can you expect your staff to be confident in theirs? Plus, calling people out on a mistake before you have got to the root of the problem is a quick way for you to lose any credibility.

Keep promises. It is all well and good having regular meetings with employees to gain their feedback and insights on how things could be improved. But, if you listen to what they say and then fail to act on that, they will start to become suspicious about how trustworthy you are. Don’t agree to anything you won’t be able to deliver on and keep a detailed record of all the things you discuss with your staff. If you can follow through on what you say, you will start to become a well-regarded figure who people want to work for.
