To Transcend Temptations for God’s Expectations

Chispa MagazineLiving as a teenager, in today’s world, is far more difficult than it was to live as a teenager “back in the day” but some may wonder why. The temptations of social media, drugs, bullying and sexual impurities outnumber previous generations and, often, we believe our parents simply don’t understand. Battling with these endless forms of temptation while trying to live a holy, Christian-like life must be one the most challenging things to navigate.

How many of your parents have seemingly impossible expectations for you to live up to? The pressure to meet their standards can be overwhelming. They expect us teens to be perfect and do no wrong but we’re humans for crying out loud! We are bound to make mistakes which they should understand since they were once teens themselves.

I believe Will Smith said it best when we made the song, “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. It’s very frustrating when parents act as if they’ve never been in our shoes. The heavy load of being unblemished at such a young age commonly draws a drift between us and our parents because they do not know what we deal with growing up in 2014.

How do we resist all of the temptations while trying to impress our parents and live for Christ?

God has created a life and future for us that, without a doubt, come with obstacles in the mix. I was taught that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. As God’s warriors, it is our jobs to do our best to transcend the appeals of the flesh. To do this, it is imperative to surround yourself with those of a like mind, recognize the test at hand and pass it no matter what, and, of course, dodging the devil’s temptations as we see them coming!

Temptations are tests of faith. Think: Have you been passing or failing lately?

Our parents help execute God’s plans for us. Whether we recognize it now or later, they want what’s best, despite the many distractors that come into play.

Perfection is impossible: nevertheless, who said it was ever wrong to try?

There’s a vision for your life! Do you allow your temptations to override God’s plan for you?

Trust God…and execute His vision!
