Beth Burns: Investment Management Consultant, a Passionate Business Owner of The (er) Factor, Caring Daughter, Sister, Niece and Compassionate Friend.

What have you overcome? I had a stroke in March 2015. I was not supposed to have a stroke. It was not supposed to happen to me, but it did. I, like many of my friends, family and my nursing staff in the hospital, see myself as the picture of health. I do not have any risk factors for a stroke. I live by all the healthy rules. I eat well, I don’t have high blood pressure, my cholesterol is less than 100 and I exercise 3 – 4 times a week. I was hospitalized for 4 days having suffered two strokes and released only with a prescription for a blood thinner in addition for the need for intensive speech therapy.  My strokes penetrated the part of my brain that controls the muscle in tongue. I was very lucky not to have suffered any physical impairments. After the strokes, my speech was slurred and was unable to pronounce many words that were prominent my daily vocabulary prior, but I survived! The brain is miraculous organ, it heals. I am blessed.  No matter how well you live your life, all can be going well and life can be cut short.

I try to live each day with no regrets. Life is precious, tomorrow is not guaranteed.  When presented with a situation or opportunity, I now ask myself, “Will I have any regrets, if don’t do it?” Since my stroke have participated in many more actives, refusing to wait for someone do it with. The result? I have increased my smile percentage and my life enjoyment factor in addition to meeting wonderful people that appreciate the same activities that I appreciate. I began 2015, with the celebration of my 51st birthday. I hit a speed-bump in March, but will end this year having had some wonderful experiences.
