Going Green At Home Is Way Easier Than You Think

Many people are living with the idea that going green requires living in a tent and riding a bicycle all day long. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Today, there are so many easy ways to go green it’ll make your head spin.

Use Natural Cleaning Utensils
Did you know that regular washing up sponges contain microscopic pieces of plastic that break off and flood the groundwater? It’s a tragedy of modern civilization, but also so simple to solve.

The solution is non-plastic, compostable organic products. These use natural fibers, like bamboo or mushrooms to create products that do the same thing, without the environmental consequences.

Use Natural Cleaning Products
Here’s another simple change you can make: use natural cleaning products.

Most natural cleaning products use a combination of bicarbonate and vinegar and avoid any of the toxic chemicals found in commercial varieties. Not only might these natural methods protect your health, they also prevent damage to the rest of the environment when you flush them away.

Connect To A Solar Farm
Another thing you could try is connecting to a solar farm. This concept is great because it doesn’t involve fitting any solar panels to your roof. As Choosesolar explains, all you need to do is hook up your mains power supply to a solar farm somewhere else. This means that you can use renewable energy, even if you live in an apartment (and don’t have any roof space).

Start Going Meatless
It takes a vast quantity of the Earth’s resources to produce meat. And that’s one of the reasons why far fewer people are eating it than ever before.

You don’t have to eliminate it entirely. Just try to go a couple of days per week without meat and see what a difference it’ll make to your expenses and health. Estimates suggest that going meat-free is one of the most powerful things you can do as an individual to reduce your burden on the planet.

Improve Your Insulation
All homes require some insulation to keep heat in during the winter and out over the summer. But most don’t have high-quality insulation, usually because it’s old.

The best solution is to totally redo all your insulation. But if you don’t have the budget for that, then you can use thermal shades that block out the sun in the summer and keep infrared energy in the house during the winter.

Donate Things You No Longer Need
Here’s another idea: instead of throwing out your old stuff, try donating it instead.

These days, you can donate just about anything you like. If you’re throwing out old clothes, put all still-wearable items in a separate box for the charity shop. If you’re renovating a bathroom or kitchen, you can often find people who want your fittings or cabinets at a discount.

Only Use Fragrance-Free Products
Lastly, try to only use fragrance-free products in your home. Many cosmetics and cleaning products contain harmful artificial scent chemicals that can disrupt both your hormones and those of other creatures.
