Create a More Colorful Home with These Techniques

Create a More Colorful Home with These Techniques-Chispa MagazineDo you think your home looks a little dull? A lot of people would like to bring more color into their life, but they’re worried that they might go overboard. You might currently have lots of neutral or tame colors and you want to take things brighter. Bright shades can be hard to play with, as you can end up with clashing or overpowering colors. Making your home more colorful doesn’t have to be that difficult, though. Even if you don’t have a great eye for color, making your home brighter and more full of life is easier than you might think.

Paint or Wallpaper
Sometimes you don’t want to add small amounts of color; you want to put in lots of it. If you wish to create a dramatic change, focusing on your walls is the way to go. You can paint or wallpaper a room from wall to wall, but there’s also the option only to decorate one or two walls. There’s nothing to say that every wall should be exactly the same or that you have to have solid blocks or one color or pattern. You can play around with how much of each wall you choose to decorate. And you can experiment with the combinations of colors and patterns you could make.

Add Soft Furnishings
If you already have furniture you love in your home, you don’t want to replace it with more colorful pieces. And they can give you big blocks of color that are overwhelming, so it’s not always the best choice. To keep your existing furniture but jazz it up, try getting some Ian Snow soft furnishings, like cushions or throws. They’re convenient for covering things up and adding some smaller bursts of color. You don’t have to go through a dramatic transformation. Even just a few small touches can make a room look completely different.

Choose an Accent Color
You might not be sure which colors to go for. If you’re having a hard time deciding, think about choosing an accent color. You can stick with the primary shades that you use now, even if they’re somewhat neutral. Add to them by picking one hue that works well and adding small splashes with it around the room. The key is to make sure you don’t go overboard because if you do it’s no longer an accent color. It could be something very bright, a pastel shade or something dark and rich.

Think About the Feel of Different Colors
When you’re choosing the shades you want to use, you can consider what they mean. Some colors feel warm, while others are cold. Some of them might remind you of winter, while others are more summery. Decide on what effect you want each room to have, whether you want it to be cozy and warm or light and airy. Keep this in mind when you’re deciding on how to add color to your home.

Don’t put up with a home that lacks color if it’s not for you. You can change things with just a well-placed cushion or a coat of paint.
