How to Baby-Proof the House in Five Easy Steps

Chispa MagazineEvery new mother needs how to take some basic measures so that their baby can play safely while in the house. This will take a great weight off your mind and will mean that you can let them explore the world with fewer worries.

The following are five of the essential steps to take in order to feel more relaxed about the safety of the little one from now on.

Identify the Potential Hazards
While there are some hazards that are common to most houses, it is important to look around your own home to find out what specific hazards are there. This shouldn’t take too long to do but you will want to be thorough and not miss out on anything at all.

The best way to do this is to get down to the level of your baby and look around the place in the way that they do. This will give you a completely different perspective and should help you to identify possible dangers more easily.

Note down each possible hazard as you find it. You can then sit down later on and find solutions for each of them.

Move Dangerous Stuff Out of Harm’s Way
You are likely to find a few things lying around the place that you don’t want the little one to get hold of. Scissors, knives, medicine, and other potential hazards all need to be moved to somewhere they can’t reach.

Most of us get into the habit of leaving things like this wherever is most convenient for us to find them later on. However, once an inquisitive baby arrives to your home it is time to take a bit more care over where you leave potentially dangerous items.

Put Latches on Doors
No doubt you have a few things stored away in your cupboards and kids bedroom furniture that you don’t want your youngster to get hold of. Thankfully, there is a very simple solution that will keep their little hands away from anything that could do them some harm.

You can easily put on some child-proof latches that are highly effective at stopping your baby from getting inside the cabinets at any time. This will help you to manage your time better, as you don’t need to be running around after the baby when you should be working or doing something else.

Add a Gate if you Have Stairs
Homes with stairs have an obvious danger for babies who are keen to get around and find new places to explore. The good news is that there is an equally obvious answer that will give you a solution in no time.

By adding a safety gate you can make sure that the youngster has no chance of running into trouble in this part of the house. Ideally, you will put a gate at the bottom of the stairs and another one at the top.

Take Great Care with Electricity
The electrical equipment and sockets dotted around your home need to be taken into consideration too. These are among the most potentially dangerous parts of the whole house and need to be treated as such.

You will want to cover the sockets and keep all of the appliances as far from the baby’s little hands as possible.

By following these five simple steps you will feel a lot more relaxed about letting your youngster roam about the house.
