4 Annoying Health Conditions You Can Prevent

We tend to view our health as something that could fail unexpectedly at any moment. And while that’s true for a small percentage of the population, it’s not the rule. In fact, the majority of diseases we get are entirely preventable, including infectious diseases.

In this post, we take a look at some of the most annoying healthy conditions out there and what you can do to prevent them. Read on to learn more.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a persistent ringing in the ears that doesn’t have an external cause. Instead, buzzing, whirring or rasping sounds are hallucinated by the brain.

Tinnitus is most common in people with hearing loss. As the signals from the ear to the auditory cortex become weaker, the brain starts to invent its own sounds to fill the void.

Tinnitus, however, is preventable. The first stage of prevention is to protect your hearing. Don’t listen to loud music through headphones, and if you have a noisy job, wear hearing protection.

The second stage if you have hearing loss is to wear hearing aids. These increase the signal to the auditory cortex, making it less liable to inventing its own sounds.

UTIs

Urinary tract infections are painful, annoying, and incredibly common. And while they affect women disproportionately, men can get them, too

UTI prevention involves avoiding certain foods in the kitchen, peeing after sex, and taking bacteria-suppressing tablets.

Taking food first, what should you avoid? Research shows that many UTIs come from bacteria found in chicken. Handling the raw meat increases the likelihood of an infection developing. Peeing after sex also helps to flush bacteria out of the urethra, preventing them from getting a foothold. And lastly, you can now get tablets that suppress bacterial growth after a round of antibiotics, stopping the infection from coming back again.

Back Pain

If you think back pain is inevitable, then think again. It’s not just a normal part of aging. Instead, it relates to your lifestyle.

There are three main causes of back pain:

  • Lack of blood flow to the affected tissues
  • Injuries caused in the past
  • Poor posture and ergonomics

There isn’t a great deal you can do about injuries incurred in the past. However, lack of blood flow and poor posture is something that you can address.

Improving blood flow involves cutting out saturated fats and animal products for a while and focusing your diet around fruit and vegetables. Exercising more may also help to restore blood flow to various areas of your spine.

Poor posture and bad ergonomics are also issues. If you sit incorrectly at work, for instance, or you don’t lift items properly, you’re putting yourself at much higher risk.

Poor Sleep

Lastly, if you have poor sleep, you’re not alone. It’s something that affects the majority of people at some point in their lives.

To fix bad sleep, make sure that your bedroom is dark and use techniques to reduce stress. Also practice letting go of life a little. Whatever issues you face, they are not particularly important in the grand scheme of things.
