How To Look Good In A Cut-Out Dress

Cut-out dresses are everywhere at the moment. These dresses allow you to show a little extra skin by containing strategically-placed cut-out sections. They’re the perfect statement dress for summer.

There are many different styles of cut-outs. This post delves into some of the most cut-out dress designs and how to look good in them.

Backless dresses.

Backless dresses contain cut-out sections for revealing your back. While these outfits can be quite racy, they’re usually suitable for both semi-formal and formal events. The aim of these dresses is to show off your back, so you may want to make sure that your back isn’t too spotty before one of these. Putting your hair up and wearing a strapless bra will help to keep your back exposed. Halter bras can also work well with some designs of backless dress.

The cold shoulder.

Cold shoulder dresses reveal one or both of your shoulders. These dresses definitely have a summery vibe and are best worn with a strapless bra so that your bra strap isn’t visible (although some of these dresses have straps that allow you to still hide regular bra straps). As with backless dresses, putting your hair up can draw more attention to your shoulders. You may also want to avoid large chunky necklaces.

Side cut outs.

Side cut outs are a much more modern trend. These dresses contain cut-outs just above the hips. They can create the illusion of an hourglass figure (if you’ve already got an hourglass figure, they can help draw attention to it). That said, you need to make sure that the dress is a perfect fit so that the cut outs don’t hang loose or expose your hips. Make sure that you’re not wearing high waisted underwear or shapewear that may be able to be seen through the cut-outs.

The plunging v-neck.

When people think of plunging necklines, they tend to think of visible cleavage. But you actually don’t need to be busty to pull off a plunging v-neck. In fact, these dresses can look surprisingly chic if you have smaller breasts. Those who are daring can wear one of these dresses without a bra. Alternatively, you could opt for a plunge bra that isn’t visible when wearing a v-neck. Consider pairing this dress with a v-shaped necklace – ideally just shorter than the v-neck cut out on your dress. There are a few variations of this cut-out including the circular cut-out which could be an alternative.

The side slit dress.

These dresses have a slit on one side for showing off some leg. Some of these slits stop at the knee while others go as high as the waist (the latter are definitely not suitable for formal occasions and are solely for when you want to look sexy). As these dresses tend to draw attention to your legs, you should make sure that your legs are looking good – which could include shaving and concealing any blemishes. Consider pairing this dress with statement shoes. Avoid wearing anything too flashy on your upper half as this will distract from your dress.
